O That I Were an Angel...

One of my favorite scriptures, that I must credit for the title of this Blog, is found in The Book of Mormon in Alma 29:
It begins...

“O that I were an angel, and could have the wish of mine heart, that I might go forth and speak with the trump of God, with a voice to shake the earth, and cry repentance unto every people!”

In this scripture Alma goes on to cry out the desires of his heart. As I read, I can hear him being totally frustrated with the people who will not listen and continue to find themselves getting into trying and troublesome situations. I am sure if he knew me, he would be counting me in his wayward group.

We are here to live and learn how to "get it right". We will be met with many obstacles and often we may feel overwhelmed at what life may put on our plate.

If we could just listen and learn, we would be amazed at how simple He has made it for us on our journey here.

But, we are human, and humans are prone to error.

A quote I heard recently, kind of sums it up:

“We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey.”

To share:

A wonderful talk by past LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley (1919 - 2008)

“O That I Were an Angel, and Could Have the Wish of Mine Heart”

In closing, let's take some time today to listen for that small voice that has been given to us, to guide us along the strait and narrow path that leads us back Home.

This scripture has been put to music. The following rendition is sung by Elder Cooper Howell while he was in the Missionary Training Center at Provo, Utah.
